“I am deeply saddened by the tragic passing of Andre. I will always love Andre like a son,” Kill stated. “His smile lit up every room. His leadership was second to none. Every person that knew him gravitated towards him and his bright and contagious spirit. His teammates and I will always cherish the memories we made during our unforgettable time together. My heartfelt condolences go out to every person that was inspired and loved by Andre.”
The Incident
The Cache County Sheriff’s Office in Utah reported that a search and rescue mission began around 2:20 p.m. on Saturday after witnesses saw a “young adult male diving from the cliffs into the water and did not resurface.” In the early hours of Sunday morning, the Utah Department of Public Safety dive team recovered Seldon’s body from Porcupine Reservoir. The sheriff’s office, in a statement to CBS, indicated that the incident appeared to be a tragic accident, corroborated by multiple witness accounts.
Mourning a Loss
On Sunday morning, the Utah State football program confirmed the tragic news on social media, expressing their grief over Seldon’s loss. During his time at New Mexico State, Seldon appeared in 28 games over two seasons, earning the respect and admiration of his teammates and coaches.
